Past Events and Continuing Programs

MIT WAE has been working to provide an informative and supportive community for women interested in aerospace. We've met with alumni, industry partners, field executives, and astronauts, as well as connected younger graduates to older ones with the advise them. This page is by no means exhaustive, and as always please feel free to contact wae-exec@mit.edu with any questions or for more information on getting involved.

Outreach

One of WAE's founding objectives is outreach to young women in an attempt to foster an interest in STEM fields. Here, two members show a young prospective astronaut around Boston's Museum of Science.

Mentorship

In the fall, freshmen and sophomores who are interested are paired with older WAE members who serve as mentors. Having someone older to go to with any questions about what classes to take, how to prepare for job interviews, or how to look into a research position lets our younger members go through aero/astro at MIT with more guidance and support than they would get otherwise.

Social Events

Since MIT students occasionally need more help trying to relax than they do trying to work, WAE also hosts various social events. These give people the chance to connect in low pressure environments and enjoy spending time with other undergraduates.

Dessert nights, museum trips, and our holiday banquet are just a few of the events hosted this past year.

Study Breaks

Throughout the year WAE also hosts a number of study breaks and problem set sessions. These usually involve reserving a room and bringing food for a couple of hours so members are free to drop by, grab something to eat, ask help on something they're struggling with, or work together on class assignments. "Pad Thai and Psets" was our most recent success.

Industry Events

Part of the success of MIT Women in Aerospace Engineering depends on connecting members to women currently working in aerospace or related careers.

Because of our connected and driven members, we've been able to meet with representatives from numerous companies as well as arrange private networking sessions with groups including NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
